Fr.O.G.S. 13th Annual Golf Outing - The significance of 100
The number 100 is a powerful symbol that has been used throughout history to represent many different concepts in various cultures. It is seen as a number of completion, a sign of the divine, and an indicator of success or abundance.
Further:
There are 100 years in a century. On the Celsius scale, 100 degrees is the boiling temperature of water. The United States Senate has 100 Senators. There are 100 yards in an American football field.100 is a perfect square number and its square root is 10.100 is the basis of percentages (“per cent” meaning “per hundred” in Latin), with 100 percent being a full amount. There are 100 pennies in one dollar.A perfect test score is 100%.
It is a score a lot of golfers would like beat!!! (Okay, maybe just some of us!!!)
And on the list could go …
But for Fr.O.G.S., the number 100 is significant for two special reasons this year:
It is the number of days to the 13th Annual Fr.O.G.S. Golf Outing, 100 days!!!
It is the raised to date level of monies that the Fr.O.G.S. hope to achieve at this year’s golf outing, $100,000!!!
So, we hope to encourage each and every one of you to help us celebrate the number 100 at this year’s 13th Annual Fr.O.G.S. Golf Outing (see attached flyer). Help us break through the $100,000 to date level by:
Registering as a player in this year’s outing for $100 per person. This includes:Green FeesCartTwo MulligansSwag BagDonutsLunchSoft DrinksSponsoring a hole for $100.Donating $100 for a sponsorship of your choice.Or helping us achieve our goal in any way you would like!!!
The Fr.O.G.S. Annual Golf Outing started as a simple way to honor the memory of Greg and to raise a few dollars to continue his legacy of paying it forward on a cold, rainy, sleeting, windy, and snowy October day in 2011. This year, we find ourselves on the threshold of having raised $100,000 to date. The Fr.O.G.S Trustees would like to express their deepest thanks to everyone who has made this possible.
See you September 21st!!!
Fr.O.G.S. Trustees
Happy New Year Fellow Fr.O.G.S.,
Everything is wrapped up from our 12th Annual Fr.O.G.S. Golf Outing held this past September 9th at The Fairways at Twin Lakes. Kudos to Bryan Harvey, Larry Picicco, and Shawn Bates for hosting the event as well as the entire staff at Twin Lakes. The food, service, and weather were all first class. Over 50 players were in attendance.
We had two foursomes that were tied for first place. So, after walking through a few tie-breakers we declared both foursomes as co-winners. So, congratulations to our two foursomes:
Team Goodyear: Team Smith:
Grant Goodyear Derrick Smith
Dave Tracy Matthew Smith
Steve Podnar Dylan Myers
John Podnar Brandon Bates
On Wednesday, November 29, a check from this year’s Fr.O.G.S. Golf Outing was presented to Deb Krutz, Treasurer of Kent City School District, and her staff. This year’s check was for:
$12,974.00
To date, Fr.O.G.S. has donated:
$93,917.78
Who would have dreamed at that first Fr.O.G.S. Golf Outing in 2011, on that cold, blustery, snowy, sleety, and rainy day with a mere 28 players, that we would be on the threshold of breaking the $100,000 to date mark. Monies donated have been allocated to college scholarships, technologies for Special Needs Students, a transport van, a sensory classroom, and for adaptive physical education equipment for Special Needs Students.
This has all been made possible by your collective participation as players, sponsors, you’re your general support. The Fr.O.G.S. Trustees (Jim Durkin, Grant Goodyear, Amanda Starc, J.T. Starc, and Joe Starc) sincerely thank you.
So, please plan on joining us on Saturday, September 21, 2024, once again at our host course, The Fairways at Twin Lakes, for our Annual Fr.O.G.S. Golf Outing. Help us to “shatter” that $100,000 to date mark.
Sincerely,
The Fr.O.G.S. Trustees
Dear FROGS:
As you are aware, the Fr.O.G.S. Trustees opted to cancel the 10th Annual Fr.O.G.S. Golf Outing last year out of an overabundance of concern for all that might have participated. We thank you for your understanding of that. Going forward though, it has been decided to hold the 10th Annual Fr.O.G.S. Golf Outing this year, 2021.
The last 15+ months have certainly been the likes which none of us have never experienced, nor probably desire to ever experience again. Even though it is a shared experience, it is also a unique experience due to our individual and family health situations, risk tolerances, occupations, and choices. It is the hope of all of Fr.O.G.S. Trustees, that we individually and collectively did the best we could and are coming out the of the other side of the recent Public Health Crisis as completly as possible.
We hope that all who feel comfortable in doing so, will feel welcomed to participate in this year's 10th Annual Fr.O.G.S. Golf Outing. Steps will be taken to make the outing as safe of an environment as possible. This will include:
- Conducting the registration and award ceremonies in an open air pavilion
- Encouraging registration and payment using our website (Venmo, PayPal) or by check via U.S. Mail
- Having individually packaged beverages, snacks, and food
- Encouraging all to be respectful of others. This would include:
- Respecting others who choose to wear or not wear masks
- Respecting others choices to social distance or not
- Encouraging foursomes to agree on their own rules for interaction
Other than the above considerations, we hope to make the Fr.O.G.S. Outing one for everyone to remember to celebrate our 10th Annual Fr.O.G.S. Golf Outing (albeit a year late), celebrate becoming an official tax exempt non-operating 501(c)(3) Private Foundation, and setting for this year only an aggressive goal of raising $10,000 to benefit the Kent City Schools Special Education Program. To date we have collectively raised just shy of $60,000. These monies have been used for scholarships, technology, a van to transport students, and a sensory classroom.
Here are some new things to be aware of:
1) Loyal Oak Golf Course has graciously agreed to host us
(The change in the host course is due to logistic reasons. We can't thank Chenoweth and their staff enough for being our host over the past several years. We look forward to Loyal Oak Golf Course being our host course this year.)
2) Shotgun start will begin at 11:00 AM
3) Mulligans will replace the Repair Kit. (1 for $5 OR 2 for $15)
4) A special "SWAG" Gift for all golfers and sponsors
5) As well as TBD "Other" additions.
We hope to see all the old faces there as well as some new ones. Please feel free to forward this email to any friends that you think may be interested.

Happy Vestivus Season Fellow Fr.O.G.S.:
The current public health situation has certainly made 2020 an “interesting year”. The Fr.O.G.S. Annual Golf Outing Committee chose to deal with it by exercising an overabundance of caution and canceling this year’s golf outing. Instead, our efforts were directed at establishing a non-profit corporation in the State of Ohio, Fr.O.G.S., and obtaining a designation from the IRS as an official, tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization.
Fr.O.G.S. effective date of establishment was July 10, 2010. Trustees are Jim Durkin, Grant Goodyear, Amanda Starc, and J.T. Starc. Joe Starc is the President/Treasurer. This new website has been created. We invite one and all to mark the website as one of your favorites. Also, a new Facebook Page has been created. We are encouraging all Fr.O.G.S. that have Facebook profiles to Follow, Like as your page, and Invite friends to this new page. The page is: Frogs@friendsofGregStarc.
But beyond the administrative details above, several have contacted us this year, and even without the Golf Outing being held, have made donations to the new 501(c)(3) Fr.O.G.S. We would like to thank one and all who have made prior years’ donations possible, as well as those who generously have donated this year. Due to the generous donations made, the Trustees have agreed to donate $7,250 to the Kent City Schools Fr.O.G.S. Special Education Fund. These funds were donated virtually via a Zoom meeting to Debbie Krutz, Treasurer of Kent City Schools on December 7, 2020..
(Note: If you would like to help support this year’s donation, you may do so below.)
The new Fr.O.G.S. 501(c)(3) organization would like to wish all of you a safe, happy, and wonderful holiday season. And please mark Saturday, September 18, 2021 on your calendars. The 10th/11th Fr.O.G.S. Annual Golf Outing is tentatively being planned for then. We hope to make it bigger and better than ever as we begin our 2nd decade together and first as an official 501(c)(3) organization.
Sincerely,
Fr.O.G.S. 501(c)(3)
Fr.O.G.S.
Friends Of Greg Starc
Fr.O.G.S. (Friends Of Greg Starc) started as a simple way to remember Greg Starc who passed away suddenly from complications due to a brain aneurysm on July 5, 2010, at age 51. He had been a special needs teacher in the Kent City Schools District since 1984. He worked with children that had a wide variety of physical and learning disabilities. We choose to remember and continue his legacy of “paying it forward”.

The Fr.O.G.S. Annual Golf Outing has become our primary fund raising event. But, it has grown to be much more. It’s become an annual reunion of dear friends, classmates, neighbors, colleagues, and “new friends”. All Donations/Sponsorships from this event go to the Kent City Schools Special Education Fund.
